Beacon Student Aid Fund

$15,235 raised to support our students!

Beacon Student Aid Fund

In mid-March our 16,000 students made immediate adjustments to their lives as we moved to remote learning model at UMass Boston. Like us, they adapted to the sudden loss of work and income (over 80% of our students had a part- or full-time job prior to the COVID-19 pandemic), took on expanded family care responsibilities, and began socially distancing themselves from loved ones.

Our students are committed to their education, but many do not have the tools necessary to succeed academically at home. Our Beacon Student Aid Fund provides emergency grants to students who encounter urgent, unanticipated financial hardship. Students are encouraged to apply for this funding, but their current needs are outpacing our available resources. Your gift will go directly to the students who need the most help.

A gift to this emergency fund helps provide:

  • Immediate support for students facing housing challenges or food insecurity.

  • Funds for students who have lost wages or jobs they depend on to pay for their education and support themselves or their families.

  • Internet access for students who will not otherwise be able to complete their coursework.

  • Resources for students who need emergency medical and mental health services.

Please consider helping UMass Boston students by making a gift to the Beacon Student Aid Fund today.
